Being the steady hand that gently encourages recovery.
Being the steady hand that gently encourages recovery.
That’s the Power of Care
Syed Emir Ezzat Bin Syed Hashem Albar
Enrolled Nurse, Changi General Hospital
Guided by his parent’s advice to live a life that would be meaningful, Ezzat pursued nursing when he did his Nitec at ITE. Even during National Service, he served as a medic in the Singapore Defence Force. It was only natural that he would decide to dedicate himself to a nursing career as an Enrolled Nurse at Changi General Hospital (CGH) when he entered the working world.
Despite his prior experience as a medic, Ezzat faced challenges adapting to a new work environment in his initial years at the hospital’s geriatric ward, having to navigate the expectations of his first full-time job. But with an open heart and an unyielding thirst for knowledge, he took every challenge as an opportunity for growth. It paid off as he got to see the fruits of his care and compassion through the positive changes he saw in the lives of the patients he cared for.
At CGH, Ezzat works closely with a multidisciplinary care team that includes doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, medical social workers, and pharmacists, collaborating to facilitate patients' recovery and transition back to the comfort of their homes in the community.
His role revolves around providing care for patients with geriatric or chronic conditions, as well as individuals with delirium or dementia. He particularly shines as a crucial bridge between the care team and patients, conveying vital care information to patients and their families, and advocating for his patients during personalised care plan discussions.
Ezzat aims to continue expanding his horizons through further education, honing his nursing prowess to advance in his nursing career. Going above and beyond, he has been immersing himself in language courses to help him converse with Mandarin-speaking patients and those who speak other dialects, so he can better communicate with and care for his patients.
For Ezzat, to be a nurse is to have the power to make a difference in the lives of those he cares for.
